September is here and my favourite season is nearly upon us. I love Autumn (or Fall, which I like to say as if I’m American). I love the crisp, cold days with blue skies and golden leaves. I love autumnal clothes (my wardrobe is 80% knitted I swear) and wrapping up. It’s the perfect season for cosy evenings in with a book, without an excuse. September also means back to school time – including for me! That’s why this week I bring you the Sunday Stories: Back to School Edition as I plan to change things slightly around here to fit around my new timetable.

What I’m Studying

If you didn’t know, I’m studying part-time for a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. I study around my job with Open University, so it’s mainly distance learning – this year probably almost entirely! That’s one good thing about OU is that the pandemic will have an impact but not such a seismic one, in that it’s completely geared up to support students online.

I’m in the second year now and I loved it last year. I decided to get my degree at almost as it’s something I always wanted to do and I either had to do it or stop moaning about it!

What Books I’ll be Reading

The set books for this year are Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (one of my faves!), Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. It’s been a while since I read Shakespeare so that will be interesting… If you have any tips please chuck them my way!

(Am aware that none of these books features in this post’s photo, let’s just pretend they do.)

There’ll also be plenty of Creative Writing for me to get my knickers in a twist about too. You’ve never seen someone so nervous for people to read the things they write in your life.

What Will Happen to the Blog

I would love to keep up my usual pace of blog content which is usually  3 x posts a week. You may have noticed that this has slowed down recently due to being very busy at work, which has made me realise that it’d be tough to churn out those, plus study.

The plan is to post at least once a week, probably alternate with reviews and other bookish posts. I will play around with it to see what works best.

Recommendations

In normal Sunday Stories style, here are some things I’ve been enjoying recently:

  • Cobra Kai on Netflix, which is a spin-off series from Karate Kid. It’s years after the original tournament but the rivalry between Johnny and Daniel reignites. The perfect balance of tongue in cheek and good in its own right.
  • Listening to more episodes of Sentimental Garbage, in particular this one about Chocolat. Don’t know if I’ve ever read it but I also need to re-watch the film immediately.
  • Plodding slowly through War and Peace and reading at a slow pace in general. Note to self: spend some less time drinking vino and more time reading!

Thank you for reading my Sunday Stories: The Back To School edition. I hope you enjoyed it and I am excited for the new school year to begin.

I’d love to know if you’re going back to school/uni/college and what your plans & hopes are!

Speak soon, enjoy your Sundays.
