I have been dying to go to Book-ish for the longest time. It always crops up on lists of the best independent bookshops in Wales and it’s in one of the cutest looking towns ever. So, you can just imagine what I was like when I finally made the trip.

Book-ish is based in Crickhowell, a gorgeous market town in Powys. It’s one of those towns you hope still exists with a high street full of local businesses. Favourite finds aside from the bookshop was The Bear where we had a scrummy lunch and Bacchus off licence which was a tiny, tiny place rammed full of booze! We took home some Welsh beer and a bottle of wine.

I digress! Where was I? Oh yes, back to the books.

Inside Book-ish

I would challenge any book lovers to walk past this gorgeous window display and not be drawn in! Book-ish is light and bright, thanks to the beautiful big windows, and it looks so friendly and inviting.

At the moment, of course, things are slightly different as there were a limited amount of customers allowed in, however, there was still a lovely welcoming vibe and I could easily imagine myself spending countless hours in here!

This is a fairly big shop and it’s really well stocked. There’s a mix of new releases and old favourites across all genres. What I liked was that there were lots of books that I hadn’t heard of before, there’s nothing better than discovering a new author in a bookshop. There’s also a great children’s selection too if you’re looking for something for the littles in your life.

I loved all the decorative touches around the shop such as the wooden scrabble-style labels and the typewriters above the shelves.

Tucked downstairs is a cafe which is sadly still closed. There’s nothing I like more than a book-cafe experience, but let’s look at the positives, that just means I’ll have to take another trip in the future, right?

For those who live nearby, Book-ish has a variety of book clubs (I particularly like the sound of the ‘The Throw Away (Your Television) Society’) and a great events calendar. If only I lived closer (obviously I looked on Right Move the moment we left. Struggling to justify the commute to the bf but I’m sure I can work on that).

Book-ish also offers an online shop and a choice of subscription services, so huzzah! it can be enjoyed from afar!

I’m so glad I finally got to visit and it won’t be long till I’m back, I’m sure of it.

Pin this Book-Ish post!

The shop looks so beautiful, Megan! I was in Crickhowell not so long ago but I don’t think it was open then. Definitely a place I need to visit when I go there again!
